Terms of use

The agreement

These terms cover the Apollo Lock website and the Apollo Mac app you download from it. By downloading or using the app, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not download it and do not use it.

What you get

You get a personal, non-exclusive license to install and run Apollo Lock on Macs you own or are allowed to administer. You do not buy the software itself, the name, or the code. You may not sell, rent, or redistribute the app, and you may not present it as your own product.

What the app does

Apollo Lock is a blocker that runs on the Mac. While a block is on, it can:

Website blocking changes a system file. macOS asks for an administrator password when a block with sites starts and when that block ends. App blocking applies to the person using the app. Website blocking applies to the whole Mac. Finder and System Settings are not offered as apps you can block.

The lock

If you turn the lock on, you are asking the app to keep the block in place until the end time you chose. Stop and Quit are turned off on purpose. Choose a length you can live with. “Until I stop” does not use the lock. An administrator of the Mac can still change system files. The lock is there to hold you to the session, not to defeat the owner of the computer.

Your Mac

You are responsible for the Mac you run it on, for the password you enter, and for the apps and sites you choose. Do not turn on a block that would stop you from reaching something you still need, including work, school, care, or emergency use. Do not install it on a Mac you are not allowed to change.

The website

The site describes the app and offers the Mac download. Pages may change. A download is the current build offered on this site. The app is not distributed through the Mac App Store. macOS may warn you before opening it. That warning is from Apple, and the usual way past it is Control-click, Open, then Open again.

No account

Apollo Lock does not ask you to create an account. It does not sign you into a service, and it does not set up a VPN. Choices you make in the app stay on that Mac.

Acceptable use

Use the app for yourself, on a Mac you are allowed to administer. Do not use it to lock someone else out of their apps or sites, or to interfere with a computer you do not administer.

Disclaimer

The app and the site are provided as they are. There is no warranty that a block will catch every app, every site, every browser trick, or every way around a hosts file. There is no warranty that a session will fit your work. To the extent the law allows, Apollo Lock disclaims implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, Apollo Lock is not liable for lost work, missed messages, a block that lasted as long as you set, a site that still loaded, an app that did not close, or any indirect or consequential loss from using the app or the site. If a law does not allow that limit, the limit is the smallest the law does allow.

Changes

These terms can be updated by posting a new version on this page. The date at the top is the date of the current version. Using the app after a change means you accept the posted terms. The privacy page is separate: Privacy.
